Frequently Asked Questions

F.A.Q.: Decorative Pavement

Q. What is stamped and colored concrete?
A. Stamped concrete is a process that takes ordinary concrete and gives it the appearance of stone, brick, cobblestone or slate. Colored Concrete is a regular concrete mix with added color at the batch plant. A colored release agent is applied before stamping to give a variegated look. Then, we apply two coats of a high gloss concrete sealer.

Q. How long will stamped concrete last?
A. The stamped concrete will last as long as regular concrete will last.

Q. Can my steps be stamped?
A. Yes. Color, texture and patterns can be applied to steps and porch areas.

Q. What type of maintenance is required for decorative concrete?
A. Maintenance requires pressure washing and resealing every 1 to 2 years or as needed, depending on traffic wear.

Q. How long will the color last in the concrete?
A. The color for stamped concrete is mixed into the cement before it is poured, so it will last as long as the concrete.

Q. Do you have a warranty against cracks?
A. We can’t guarantee that the concrete won’t crack, because concrete always cracks. However, we add control joints and expansion joints to help prevent stress on the concrete. The goal of the control joints is to have the concrete crack in these joints.

Q. What is StreetPrint®?
A. StreetPrint® is a decorative paving system that uses specially designed templates to imprint asphalt, and a system called StreetBond® to color and fortify the surface. The result is a decorative paving system that replicates the appearance of hand laid brick.

Q. How much does it cost?
A. The cost to install StreetPrint® varies depending upon the thickness of the asphalt, the amount of base preparation that is required, size of the project, pattern and colors chosen. StreetPrint® is the best value when compared to other types of decorative pavements.

Q. Can StreetPrint® be installed over my existing driveway?
A. Provided the existing surface is in good condition, StreetPrint® can be applied as an overlay to existing concrete, asphalt or aggregate base. If the existing driveway is in good shape and has never been sealed, the pavement can be reheated and StreetPrint® can be applied.

Q. Why use StreetPrint® as an alternative to concrete or brick pavers?
A. StreetPrint® can be installed very quickly with relatively little disruption, so it is usually more cost effective than other alternatives. With StreetPrint®, you are using an asphalt base. Asphalt is a flexible pavement that is more likely to accept movement due to weather extremes and can resist cracking commonly associated with other paving systems. StreetPrint® is very easy to patch.

Q. What about weeds?
A. StreetPrint® is a continuous surface and its protective surfacing system does not support organic materials, so the weed growth seen with hand laid products is not a problem with StreetPrint®.

Q. Will the color fade?
A. The coating is fade resistant and helps to repel harmful UV rays. As with all decorative paving systems there will be some wear over time. Unlike other decorative paving systems the color of your StreetPrint® work can rejuvenated or changed as frequently as you would like.

Q. What are the maintenance frequencies and costs?
A. Maintenance frequencies will depend on the application. Low traffic applications need less maintenance than commercial or municipal applications. Maintenance costs will vary.
